The SUNBURST Restuarant
"Memories of Muffins & Fun"
by a local patron

Twenty-five years ago I lived in Brookfield and was sixteen. "The years where did they go?" They turned into memories.

Those twenty-five years while I grew so did The Sunburst Muffin Shop, my first memory of going there was with my elder sister who had a part time job and felt she should treat me to a “cool” new muffin from the “neat” new place in town.

It became a weekly event for a while, walking down town creating memories of muffins and fun. As the years passed I grew up and moved away for a while, the muffin shop did too – though they only moved one town away and grew more into a restaurant.

I still have my memories of the muffins and fun at sixteen, and now I live close by and am creating middle-aged memories of blueberry pancakes and fun. It’s my usual at Sunburst.

So much so I hope Sylvia the owner will be there when I go, to make them just for me as she knows how. Greeting me by name she knows how many I will eat and makes them just right.

Of all the places I have been and all of the breakfast meals I have been honored to be included in, my blueberry pancakes at Sunburst are my favorite. No offense Mom if you’re reading this.

The Sunburst Restaurant is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. If you are not already a regular you should stop by and give it a try. For breakfast & lunch or just a tea and conversation.

“Ode to Sunburst”

I was out of a job in ‘78
Looked for employment, not to late
Saw an empty store front in town
Asked for permission for what I found
Had a friend who cooked for her family
Said she’d be good, so if only
We chose a menu with muffins and fruit
Got her husband, a carpenter to boot
Hammered, papered and we sawed
With joy, excitement, and applaud
When to open, 1st day of Spring
Hoping hard work, we would bring
Family, friends, the town people, too
We would give ourselves, all true blue

After four years and lots of smoke
We moved to Sturbridge with different folk
Mom and Dad and our Jim
Helped us settle another whim
Lots has happened we don’t deny
Friends galore stand close buy
25 years is quite a time
To keep the business on the line
Coffee, fruit and muffins so big
Every day a brand new gig
I’d like to thank all customers of mine
For all the good years, It’s been just fine

Again, Thank you for your support
Sylvia Jane
