MED - CAR : .A door to door assisted transportation service provided by volunteers to take elders, in the volunteets vehicles, to non-emergency medical and non-medical appointments, for a suggested donation. For residents of West Brookfield and Brookfield who are 60 and older. Monday - Friday, daytime appointments only
INFORMATION, REFERRAL, AND ADVOCACY : Call if you need a solution or clarification on pertinent issues such as Social Security, Medicare, abatements, home repair, home services, health insurance, fuel assistance and food stamps.
CONGREGATE LUNCH AND MEALS ON WHEELS : Well balanced hot lunches served or delivered Monday - Friday. Donation is $2.00 for seniors over 60 and $3.50 for those under 60. Reservations must be made by noon the day before. Call (508) 867-1411.
EXCERCISE SESSIONS : Weight bearing and resistance excercise. Tai Chi and other classes are offered as well.
CRAFTS : Enjoy a variety of arts and crafts lessons.
CHORUS: Join the "SILVERTONES." Call for practice and performance times. Make a joyful noise, for the fun of it!
PODIATRY: Foot clinic is offered to the first ten people monthly who sign up. Usually held on the third Tuesday of each month at 11:00 am. Suggested donation is $7.00. People are asked that they participate every other month, to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to be seen.
SENIOR CLUB: 1st Wednesday of the month at 1:30 pm. New members are allways welcome! Dues are $5.00 yearly. Participate in a wide variety of programs, games, and trips.
ELDERBUS : May be called in advance for transportation at 1-800-321-0243 by anyone over 60 or handicapped. On request a chairlift van is available for wheelchair use.
SUPPORT GROUP SERVICES: Grief and Loss Support Group and SHINE ( Serving the Health Needs of Elders), counseling for health insurance assistance.
TELEPHONE REASSURANCE / FRIENDLY VISITOR PROGRAMS : Volunteers provide caring contact to possible at risk elders. Please call with referrals or to offer your service as a volunteeer.
START OF THE DAY: Fresh coffee and baked goods. Join in some friendly conversation, play cards, or read the newspaper. It is a nice places to start your day.
AFTERNOON PROGRAMS: Start between 12:30 and 1:30 pm. Programs offer a variety of events ranging from card parties, afternoon tea, movies, music, integenerational activities, demonstrations, memoir writing, bingo, duplicate bridge, and much more!
COURSES AND TRIPS: Writing, painting, CPR, and other courses areavailable at various times throughout the year. Bus trips are scheduled and require an advanced deposit. Carpool trips to local restaurants, parks, and other destinations also.
FRIENDS OF THE COUNCIL : Join this organization that meets annually to support the well - being of seniors in West Brookfield. Dues $3.00 per calendar year.
